This session is part of techUK's "Scaling the Responsible Adoption of Agentic AI" workshop series.

Agentic AI systems raise new questions about how work is designed, managed, and experienced. The successful adoption of agentic AI will depend not only on technical capability, but on whether the workforce has the skills, confidence, and trust needed to work alongside increasingly autonomous systems.

This session focuses on how organisations and policymakers can prepare the UK workforce for the widespread use of agentic AI — ensuring that these technologies enhance productivity and job quality, while preserving human agency and minimising disruption.

In this session, our discussion will likely focus on:

  • UK workforce preparedness: What does the UK need to focus on, in terms of education, training, and policy, to ensure our workforce benefits from agentic technologies? How do we minimise disruption while maximising the positive impact on productivity and job quality?
  • Skills for managing AI agents: Does our workforce have the capabilities to analyse what agentic systems produce, understand their decision-making processes, and effectively manage agentic AI? What technical and soft skills are essential?
  • Workforce design and human agency: How do we design work, working environments, and organisational structures to augment human agency rather than diminish it? How can we ensure that the introduction of agentic AI enhances the experience of workers and maintains meaningful human oversight and control?
  • Workforce trust and uptake: What does trust in agentic systems look like from a workforce perspective? How can we best encourage responsible understanding and confidence in agentic AI in a way that can bolster its effective and safe use? How do we build confidence among workers in collaborating with autonomous agents while addressing legitimate concerns about job disruption and changing roles?
