A few years ago, techUK explored the rise of autonomous robots, machines capable of executing tasks independently, with limited human intervention. Since then, we have seen the rise of agentic AI, systems that plan, make decisions and adapt to new information with minimal human intervention to achieve objectives autonomously. The potential to combine agentic AI with physical robotic hardware and advanced industrial automation is now opening up a new generation of systems that can reason, plan and act in the physical world. Unlike autonomous robots, which react to sensor data and execute pre-defined tasks, agentic robots can interpret broad goals, break them into multi-step plans, and adapt dynamically to new situations. The distinction matters because autonomous systems execute, and agentic systems reason, plan and act.

As techUK’s workshop series on agentic AI makes clear, the question is no longer whether agentic AI will be adopted at scale, but how, and whether the conditions for responsible scaling are in place to maximise its potential across the economy.

This event, co-delivered by techUK’s Robotics and AI programmes, will explore what this means in practice. It will examine existing trends, any potential blockers, and what it takes for the UK to lead on robotics in the age of agentic AI.

What will we cover?

  • What agentic robotics is and how it differs from conventional automation
  • Where the convergence of AI, robotics and autonomous systems is already happening across telecoms, defence, logistics, manufacturing and beyond
  • How agentic robotics could reshapes the workforce, changing roles, human–machine collaboration, and the skills needed to deploy and oversee these systems
  • What does the UK government understands about this convergence, and how can techUK members inform this thinking.

The full speaker lineup will be confirmed and shared in due course.
