Securing Clarity on how Regulators Should Consider Growth
Digital Regulations

techUK’s Evolving Digital Regulation for Growth and Innovation report highlighted confusion around how regulators should interpret "growth". Government has committed to reforming the Growth Duty to provide a clearer legal framework ensuring regulators must consider and promote growth.

Digital Regulations

We recommended more consistent engagement to reduce friction and increase certainty. Government now pledges that new regulation will be proportionate, predictable, and designed to give both businesses and consumers clarity.

Digital Economy

In an open letter published in collaboration with our members, we called for the government to seize the moment and unlock the benefits that e-invoicing can bring to the UK economy. In the Budget, the government committed to mandatory e-invoicing by 2029.

Skills, Talent and Diversity

techUK called for a dedicated DSIT team to drive digital inclusion and tackle exclusion. These recommendations underpin the government’s first digital inclusion strategy, with techUK now sitting on the Digital Inclusion Action Committee and co-chairing its Industry Sub-group.

Shaping the national approach to hybrid work

Skills, Talent and Diversity

Through written and oral evidence to the House of Lords Committee on Home Working, techUK argued for management-led, flexible workplace decisions over rigid mandates. The final report strongly reflects these positions, shifting the debate towards empowering employers and employees.

Influencing reforms to the curriculum and assessment system
Skills, Talent and Diversity

techUK emphasised the need for a curriculum that prepares learners for an AI-enabled society. Government commitments following the review reflect techUK’s recommendations, including creating a fully digital national curriculum to help teachers contextualise learning across subjects.

Working with CII, techUK called for a clear roadmap for higher-TRL R&D collaboration. The UK and Indian Prime Ministers endorsed the India-UK Vision 2035, committing to deepen bilateral research and innovation through the Research & Innovation Corridor.

The House of Commons Business & Trade Committee’s report Toward a new doctrine for economic security reflects many of techUK’s recommendations, including coherent long-term trade policy, SME support, and strengthened UK leadership at the WTO.

Advocating for fraud prevention
Online Fraud

Since publishing our Anti-Fraud Report, we’ve seen meaningful government engagement with our recommendations. This includes the Home Office championing a cross-sector approach to fraud prevention, placing greater emphasis on the positive role of technology in tackling fraud, and strengthening focus on global coordination to disrupt fraud and scam centres to persue fraudsters operating on an international scale and take down infrastructure such as scam centres.

Driving adoption of secure Digital ID for AML compliance
Digital ID

techUK’s consultation response urged HM Treasury to embed the DSIT Trust Framework in the Money Laundering Regulations to support safe, consistent digital identity verification. The government has since committed to publishing joint HMT–DSIT guidance explicitly referencing the Framework, informed in part by a techUK member session.

Shaping the UK Semiconductor Centre

In our UK Plan for Chips report, techUK called for a national semiconductor hub to lead on R&D, coordination and resilience. In June 2025, government delivered - announcing a £19 million UK Semiconductor Centre as part of the Industrial Strategy.

Embedding pro-innovation regulation through the AI Growth Lab
AI

The government’s new AI Growth Lab reflects techUK’s recommendations from the Evolving Digital Regulation for Growth and Innovation report, particularly around expanding the use of regulatory sandboxes and reviewing outdated rules. This marks a significant step toward a more agile, innovation-friendly regulatory environment that supports responsible AI deployment and economic growth.

Leading the industry response to National digital ID scheme announcement
Digital ID

techUK’s latest Digital ID report published just weeks after the National Digital ID announcement made sure the voice of the UK tech sector was heard on the importance of designing digital ID policy that protects citizens, encourages innovation, and delivers tangible benefits for individuals and the wider economy. This resulted in techUK giving evidence at the Home Affairs Select Committee on Digital ID and techUK members have had the opportunity to engage with senior leaders across UK Government, including Cabinet Office.

Expanding Support for Semiconductor Start-ups
Semiconductor

techUK recommended renewing and scaling the ChipStart pilot scheme to energise early-stage semiconductor innovators. The government launched the third ChipStart cohort in March 2025, backing firms expected to secure over £40m in private investment.

Our report Mapping the responsible AI profession shaped DSIT’s Trusted Third-Party AI Assurance Roadmap. DSIT publicly reaffirmed the influence of the report during a joint techUK–Ada Lovelace Institute workshop.

Thoughout 2025 and the international year of quantum, we worked across the ecosystem to showcase the UK's success on this innovative and nascent technology. techUK planned and chaired the headline stage panel on quantum, discussing how the UK will build on success and plan the next decade of quantum innovation.

Streamlining the defence innovation ecosystem
Defence

In submissions to the Strategic Defence Review and Defence Industrial Strategy, techUK called for greater coherence across defence innovation bodies. Government has responded by creating UK Defence Innovation, consolidating units such as DASA, J-Hub and Future Capability Innovation as we recommended.

Following the release of techUK’s Driving Digital Transformation report, the government’s Plan aligned with techUK’s recommendations, identifying opportunities to potect and invest in digital transformation, improving commercial and procurement practices, and addressing the digital skills gap in the health and care workforce.
