techUK's New Space focus
Running from September to December 2023, this sprint campaign explored how the UK can lead on the development, application and commercialisation of space technologies, bring more non-space companies into the sector, and ultimately realise the benefits of the New Space Economy.
These technologies include AI, quantum, lasers, robotics & automation, advanced propulsion and materials, and semiconductors.
Activity has taken the form of roundtables, panel discussions, networking sessions, Summits, thought leadership pieces, policy recommendations, and a report. The report, containing member case studies and policy recommendations, was launched in March 2024 at Satellite Applications Catapult's Harwell campus.
🎯 Objectives
The sprint campaign had the following objectives:
- To convene the UK's Space and technology sectors to increase awareness of stakeholders, drive collaboration, and create opportunities for partnerships
- To identify the main emerging technologies and trends set to underpin the emergence of the New Space Economy
- To determine the key barriers to the development, application, and commercialisation of these technologies in the UK (format: workshops and/or roundtables)
- To develop then share a set of recommendations for industry and Government to ensure the UK leads on the emerging space technologies of the future (format: report)
techUK worked with a range of member organisations and stakeholders to make this sprint campaign a reality including the UK Space Agency (UKSA), UK Space, Satellite Applications Catapult, Harwell Space Cluster, Space Hub Yorkshire, Regulatory Horizons Council, PwC and Deloitte.
