Join us for an introductory session with the National Energy System Operator (NESO) on the Strategic Spatial Energy Plan (SSEP). The SSEP is a new national framework shaping the future of energy infrastructure across Great Britain.

The SSEP will set out a long-term view of where and what types of energy infrastructure are needed between 2030 and 2050 to meet Net Zero targets, supporting the Government’s Clean Power 2030 goals. It will work alongside the Future Energy Scenarios (FES) and the Centralised Strategic Network Plan (CSNP) to identify optimal locations for electricity and hydrogen generation, storage, and transmission - helping to guide planning, investment, and policy decisions.

The plan will also underpin key reforms, including changes to network charging (such as Transmission Network Use of System (TNUoS) charges), planning processes, and grid connection rules.

The SSEP also aims to ensure energy infrastructure is planned to anticipate future demand, reduce delays, and improve certainty for investors. The session is therefore particularly relevant to demand-side industries, and especially timely given Ofgem’s recent announcement to reform the demand connections process.

In this session, NESO will provide an overview of the SSEP and explore how it connects with wider demand-side industries, highlighting its role in shaping the future of energy planning.
