Shaping the future of policing data standards: event write-up

On 16 July, techUK hosted a roundtable in collaboration with the Home Office to discuss data standards in policing. The session brought together a range of tech industry representatives to explore the current challenges facing police forces in relation to data, and to consider how these might be addressed by implementing data standards.

The session, designed to get a general sense of supplier views, identified several recurring challenges. These included data fragmentation, a lack of clear mandates, technology and data-related obstacles, accountability gaps, and broader ethical considerations. The discussion centred on how data standards could be improved across policing in order to drive interoperability and consistency, and whether such standards should ultimately be mandated for both forces and suppliers.
