Call for evidence on the independent review of police force structures: techUK member briefing and input session – event round-up

We were pleased to convene a techUK industry session in response to Lord Hogan Howe’s Independent Review of Police Force Structures, originally launched on 16 March 2026.

The session gave techUK members the opportunity to provide feedback and inform a coordinated, evidence-based submission to the review that reflected the voice of the technology industry.

The session provided techUK members with:

Key opportunities

Discussion on improving effectiveness in tackling serious and cross-border crime, with a focus on interoperability, data sharing, and technology enablers such as AI and standards.

Challenges and risks

Discussion of key challenges including data migration, process harmonisation, contract novation, change fatigue, commercial readiness, contract alignment, and the impact on SMEs.

Industry requirements and supplier engagement

Discussion of the need for nationally scalable but locally configurable solutions, alongside clear communication, sequencing of change, and supplier readiness planning.

Implications for future alignment

Consideration of opportunities for better alignment between policing and local government systems, and the wider impact on public sector integration and criminal justice outcomes.
