A Quiet Force for Good in Cybersecurity: Randall Mason, Fortinet
For over a decade, Randall Mason has been a pivotal figure at Fortinet, serving as the company’s Senior Manager for Government and overseeing technical leadership across national security sectors, including Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) and Departments of State. But Mason’s impact reaches far beyond his formal job description, he’s a driving force in shaping the future of cybersecurity in the UK and an inspiring advocate for diversity and inclusion in the tech sector.
Over the past ten years, Randall has gone above and beyond to support initiatives that nurture young talent and promote societal good. As a lead ambassador for the NCSC CyberFirst programme for more than five years, he has personally delivered school sessions and cyber ‘Capture the Flag’ events, sparking interest in cybersecurity careers among students and educators alike. These hands-on experiences have made cybersecurity tangible for young people, and Randall’s enthusiasm continues to inspire the next generation of cyber professionals.
A globally recognised Fortinet Diversity Champion, Randall is equally committed to fostering a more inclusive industry. His influence has extended across his own company and the broader sector, where he is known for his tireless work mentoring and coaching individuals from underrepresented backgrounds. From his early days at Cisco to his current role at Fortinet, Randall has been a consistent and compassionate advocate for increasing ethnic minority representation in the cybersecurity field. His work has helped countless individuals not only enter the industry but stay and thrive within it.
Mason’s dedication to developing talent doesn't stop there. He was instrumental in building a graduate and intern programme at Fortinet, offering a vital entry point for young professionals eager to begin their careers in cybersecurity. His efforts have not gone unnoticed. At a farewell event he personally organised and funded for one group of interns, the cohort surprised him with a gift, a reflection of the deep respect and appreciation they felt for his guidance and support.
Despite his considerable achievements, Randall remains a humble and reserved figure. Yet those who have worked with him describe him as a "tour de force" in his commitment to uplifting others and contributing to the national good. His three decades of quiet yet powerful service to the cybersecurity community make him a standout nominee for the techUK President’s Award.
Randall Mason embodies what it means to lead with purpose: developing future talent, championing diversity, and strengthening national cyber resilience, all without seeking recognition. His legacy is one of integrity, dedication, and a lasting impact on both individuals and the industry at large
