Background

The UK has world-class capabilities in deep tech, spanning quantum, robotics, photonics, semiconductors, engineering biology and more. Deep tech sits at the heart of the government's Industrial Strategy, with the Digital and Technologies Sector Plan identifying six frontier technologies expected to grow rapidly over the next decade.

Yet despite this potential, scale-ups in these sectors face distinct and often underappreciated challenges: deep tech is capital-intensive, routes to profitability are long, and understanding of the asset class remains uneven across the investor community.

Join us as we explore

- Barriers to scaling:  what is preventing UK deep tech companies from reaching their potential, and how does the current funding landscape support or hinder commercialisation?

- Talent and skills:  Is the UK producing enough specialised talent across deep tech disciplines, and what role can government play in strengthening the pipeline?

- Commercialisation and market access:  How are deep tech firms engaging with private investors and anchor customers, and are current government procurement mechanisms fit for purpose?

- Policy asks:  If you could make one change to accelerate deep tech scaling, what would it be?
