Alongside the report's launch, this event will also spotlight techUK's Frontier Compute focus, an initative set to explore how the next-generation of compute (which includes photonics, quantum and neuromorphic technologies) is set to shape the UK's digital infrastructure. Building on some of the report's core themes, this focus will examine what the UK needs to do to secure the compute capacity required, from scaling domestic capabilities to attracting the investment needed to future-proof the UK's digital foundations. On 16 September 2026, techUK will bring together senior leaders from across industry and government to launch its forthcoming report, Digital Infrastructure 2035 – The backbone of Britain’s future economy, highlighting the key role of digital infrastructure as the foundation for all future economic activity.
The report will argue that the UK build an economy that is connected and digital by design, and that with the right strategy for digital infrastructure the UK can attract inward investment, boost resilience and national security, and support long-term growth.
The UK's ability to scale a $1tn tech company, realise the full benefits of the AI revolution, continue to grow its thriving ecosystem of tech start-ups, and transform public services, will be built on the foundations of its digital infrastructure.
Join us to explore what good looks like by the end of this Parliament and how the UK can harness the full benefits of the next wave of digital innovation. The event will set out techUK's recommendations for government and industry, and the milestones we believe the UK must hit to remain competitive.

Josh Turpin
Josh joined techUK as a Programme Manager for Telecoms and Net Zero in August 2024.
In this role, working jointly across the techUK Telecoms and Climate Programmes, Josh is responsible for leading on telecoms infrastructure deployment and uptake and supporting innovation opportunities, as well as looking at how the tech sector can be further utilised in the UK’s decarbonisation efforts.
Prior to joining techUK, Josh’s background was in public affairs and communications, working for organisations across a diverse portfolio of sectors including defence, telecoms and infrastructure; aiding clients through stakeholder engagement, crisis communications, media outreach as well as secretariat duties.
Outside of work, Josh has a keen interest in music, painting and sailing.

Ella Shuter
Ella Shuter
Ella joined techUK in July 2025 as Junior Programme Manager for Emerging Technologies.
In her role, Ella leads the design and delivery of techUK's focus areas, which identify emerging technologies of interest to members and Government. These initiatives seek to showcase industry best practice, champion key UK sectors, and address the challenges and opportunities shaping the development, application, and commercialisation of these technologies. Previous focus areas led by Ella have included photonics, and currently, frontier compute.
Ella also supports the day-to-day running of techUK's Emerging Tech and Innovation Policy activity, working to convene industry experts and policymakers to showcase best practice, shape government thinking, and ensure the UK leads on the development and deployment of transformative technologies.
Before joining techUK, Ella completed an internship at Digital Catapult, supporting across public affairs, policy and the organisation's programmes. She also has experience working in an MP's Parliamentary and Constituency Office.
Ella holds a BSc in Politics and International Relations from the University of Bristol.
