Background

In November 2024, techUK published a paper, titled Ethics in Action: Whitepaper to Workplace, which set out how implementation of the UK AI White Paper’s ethics principles are being achieved in practice through assurance mechanisms and standards.

This September, we’ve joined forces with PwC and Innovate UK Immersive Tech Network to produce a second paper in this series, this time focusing on the application and operationalisation of these ethical principles to immersive environments.

Much like the first paper, this offers the existing practical insights, assurance tools, and examples from industry best practices available to the technology industry that can be used to demonstrate the successful achievement of each ethical principle. It aims to provide organisations with valuable information as they explore practical approaches to implementing responsible innovation in real-world settings including those utilising smart audio agents, Virtual Reality training, Augmented Reality experiences, and motion capture technologies.

Event details

This paper launch event, taking place at techUK offices, will see the release of this paper accompanied by a panel session in which experts will discuss its key findings, share their reflections on what’s changed since the publication of the first paper focused on AI in this series, and bring the practical application of these ethical principles to life through real-world use cases.

Click ‘Book now’ to secure your free ticket to what promises to be an insightful session exploring how ethical AI principles can be applied to immersive technologies and environments.

Speakers and agenda to be confirmed in due course.

Continuing the conversation

This paper is not a static document but a living resource, open to feedback and contributions from the community at this year’s Digital Ethics Summit (taking place at County Hall, London on 3 December). We hope it serves as a valuable insight for businesses, policymakers, and practitioners alike as they navigate this rapidly evolving landscape.

We extend our gratitude to techUK’s Digital Ethics Working Group and Innovate UK Immersive Tech Network’s Ethics Working Group for their valuable feedback, plus techUK’s member companies for their case study contributions.
