techUK launches new sustainable government ICT taskforce

Defra is developing a new sustainable government ICT strategy that will change how sustainability is assessed in government-wide public sector technology procurement. It is designed to help departments and buyers apply new sustainability metrics in tenders, and will be adopted across all buying departments.

We expect it to introduce requirements on circularity, refurbishment, human rights and supply chain transparency, underpinned by strong carbon commitments.

techUK is launching a member taskforce to shape our response and influence the strategy as it develops. Its job will be to agree our positions and help members understand what will need to change within their own operations.

Members will determine the taskforce's shape and output. We expect around 10–15 firms meeting once a fortnight, with members carrying forward actions, and with our work feeding into the Government Digital Sustainability Alliance.

To express interest, email [email protected] by 10 August.

Climate, Environment and Sustainability Programme activities

The techUK Climate Programme provides opportunities for members to present tech solutions that assist carbon emission reduction, circularity, and human rights goals. We also help our members with their own net zero transition, including measurement, implementation, compliance, and reporting. Visit the programme page here.
