Defra has published a consultation on reforming the registration model of REACH to a new system called the Alternative Transitional Registration model (ATRm).

On 20 May 2024, the UK’s AI Safety Institute released its fourth progress report. The following is a short outline of the key announcements made with more detailed information below. 

On 17 May the interim International Scientific Report on the Safety of Advanced AI was published. The interim International Scientific Report on the Safety of Advanced AI is the product of a collaborative effort following the Bletchley Park AI Safety Summit in November 2023. The report seeks to forge a shared international understanding of AI safety and to identify and evaluate technical methods for mitigating AI risks.  

May 2024 techUK launched its Fire Innovation Forum. We were joined for this kick off meeting by representatives from the National Fire Chiefs Council’s (NFCC) including; Steve Beakhurst, Steve Taylor, Claire Chambers, and Gillian Fyfe. During the session, attendees gained insight into the infrastructure and challenges of NFCC and their Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) ambitions.

On Wednesday 16th May, the government published the Cyber Security Sectoral Analysis 2024 providing insights on the size and scale of the UK's cyber security industry. The analysis builds on the 2023 report which was published in April last year.

This week, 22-24 May, techUK will be taking a delegation of members to Vivatech for the first time.
