DSIT Secondee Opportunities

The Secretary of State for the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology believes her department's success in making Britain a science and tech superpowers will be bolstered by bringing in more external expertise. In support of this aim, DSIT is implementing a programme to bring academic and industry secondees into the department, to work alongside civil servants on some of the most challenging and important science and technology policy questions facing the UK.

DSIT tech secondees

techUK is proud to be working with DSIT to deliver the first phase of their industry secondee work. DSIT hopes to bring in a number of industry secondees as soon as possible. DSIT will continue to work with techUK and others to scale this initiative, using the learning from these first secondments.

DSIT has provided a number of role specifications (below) for interested organisations to consider. These set out the context of the secondment opportunity, the nature of the work, candidate specifications as well as time commitment.

Limited funding is available from the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology to support these secondments, and options should be discussed with hiring managers when individuals make contact.

Any placements would include an assessment of potential conflicts of interest, both during and after a secondment. This and any comms associated with a secondment would be agreed with the home organisations.

DSIT would arrange for IT and building access as well as appropriate oversight and check in arrangements with secondees and their home organisations.

Interested organisations should submit an expression of interest to the contact listed in the specification, copying [email protected]. That expression of interest should provide a short overview of the candidate and how they could support the outline work.

Expressions of interest should be submitted as soon as possible.

Following receipt of expressions of interest, DSIT officials will hold light touch interviews with interested candidates to confirm matches.

Where matches are made DSIT will agree the terms of the secondment with the individuals and home organisations.
