techUK is hosting the Taskforce for Nature-Related Disclosures (TNFD) to come speak to members about its latest draft sector guidance, for technology and communications.
This is now open for consultation with industry and other interested stakeholders until 10 April 2026. We would recommend downloading and viewing the document ahead of the call and coming prepared with any questions.
The guidance is designed to help organisations with business models and value chains in the technology and communications sectors to apply the LEAP approach to their context and to disclose sector-specific metrics in line with the TNFD recommendations. It builds upon existing industry standards and tools such as ENCORE as well as complementary sector guidance developed by Business for Nature, WBCSD and the World Economic Forum.
The TNFD is particularly welcoming feedback from sectors including electronic manufacturing services and original design manufacturing, hardware, software and IT services, and corporates with business models and value chains with technology and communications on how to improve the guidance, and whether it:
-
Is clear, practical and fit for purpose in supporting technology and communications organisations to apply the LEAP approach
-
Appropriately reflects the most material nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities for the sector
-
Overlooks any important issues or perspectives
-
Is easy to use alongside existing risk management and reporting processes
-
Proposes sector disclosure metrics that are decision useful, feasible and proportionate
For context, please see the final general TNFD Recommendations, information on the LEAP approach, other sector guidance.
As a side note, the TNFD will be finalising ongoing technical work by Q3 2026, in order to support the ISSB in undertaking standard-setting to introduce incremental disclosure requirements on nature-related risks and opportunities, drawing upon the TNFD framework. This is intended to be published in time for the Biodiversity COP17 in October 2026.
