The government’s new Industrial Strategy includes a £41 million investment to roll out low-earth-orbit (LEO) satellite connectivity across all mainline trains to help deliver long-standing ambitions on digital connectivity across the rail network.

Combined with significant terrestrial digital infrastructure programmes like Project Reach - which aims to eliminate mobile dead zones across the rail network - this represents a comprehensive approach to transforming rail connectivity. Together, these initiatives are expected to improve both passenger experience and productivity by significantly improving Wi-Fi speeds and availability, while supporting a more integrated and digitally enabled transport network.

This webinar will explore how this latest investment can be delivered in practice, what opportunities it creates for the rail industry and technology providers, how it will work alongside terrestrial deployment, and the next steps.

Agenda Highlights

  • Policy context: What the Industrial Strategy and £41m LEO rail investment means for digital connectivity and transport innovation

  • Use cases for LEO in rail: passenger Wi-Fi, real-time monitoring, safety systems, and asset management

  • Deployment challenges & solutions: integration with existing rail infrastructure, interoperability, and resilience

  • Next steps: how industry, government and operators can collaborate to deliver on the Strategy’s ambitions

Why Attend?

  • Hear first-hand how the Industrial Strategy commitment will shape rail digitalisation

  • Discover opportunities for tech suppliers and operators to contribute to delivery

  • Learn about practical use cases beyond passenger Wi-Fi, including safety and operational improvements

  • Help shape the conversation on how rail connectivity can enable a smarter, greener, and more productive UK transport system

Who Should Join?

Rail operators, government and local transport authorities, digital infrastructure providers, LEO and satellite firms, investors, and innovators in transport technology.
