🫶Why DEI is a non-negotiable in shaping an equitable digital future
AI could have endless opportunities, but only if it is designed and used in a way that is inclusive for all. Investing in diverse founders and entrepreneurs drives not only innovation but economic growth. The tech sector is actively working to open up new pathways for young people from diverse backgrounds to thrive, which will help the sector to develop better products and services that recognise diverse user needs—allyship and mentorship support this.
Together, these topics weave TechTogether's mission to break barriers and create opportunities for all.
We understand that economic pressures and political climates have contributed to a growing backlash towards diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and that companies may fatigue in this focus, but what we cannot forget is that DEI is not just good for society but is also good for business. The business case makes clear the link between diverse teams, better decisions and enhanced profitability.
Particularly in the tech sector, the need to ensure the sufficient representation of underrepresented groups is more important than ever - tech needs to reflect the society it seeks to serve and needs DEI to develop better products and services that recognise diverse user needs.
While the UK will feel aftershocks from the decisions made by firms in the US, we must not stop pushing for progress.
Tech companies wield significant influence and have the potential to drive positive social change. Our goal is to use this month to celebrate the work organisations are doing while acknowledging the work that still lies ahead.
