RELX's Alistair Tebbit announced as new Chair of the UK-Japan Tech Forum

Today, techUK and JEITA announced Alistair Tebbit, Head of Asia Pacific Government Affairs at RELX as the new Chair of the UK-Japan Tech Forum.

Alistair has over 20 years’ experience in public policy, spanning think tanks, NGOs, and industry. RELX is a UK‑based global information services and data analytics group employing over 36,000 people worldwide, where he leads the company’s engagement with governments and policymakers across Asia‑Pacific on issues including AI governance, intellectual property, data protection, information security, and science policy.

Alistair is also a member of techUK’s Growth Council and a Visiting Policy Fellow at the Oxford Internet Institute, a department of the University of Oxford. From 2019 to 2020, he served as the UK Government‑approved co‑chair of the India–UK JETCO working group on digital and data services, supporting bilateral negotiations on a prospective free trade agreement.

As Chair of the UK-Japan Tech Forum, he will play a central role in shaping how the Forum engages with both industry and government. The UK-Japan Tech Forum, co-organised by techUK and JEITA, is a platform for both the UK and Japanese tech sectors along with their respective governments to come together to explore collaboration opportunities in technology and innovation.

The Forum brings together representatives from both the UK and Japanese governments alongside senior industry leaders to discuss the current state of the bilateral relationship. It explores opportunities for collaboration between government and industry, as well as strategic pathways to strengthen ties through frameworks such as the UK–Japan Digital Partnership and the Hiroshima Accord. The Forum also supports UK & Japanese companies, particularly those in the emerging technology sector, in expanding and exporting into each other’s markets.

Alistair’s extensive experience and leadership across the UK tech sector and Asia-Pacific government affairs will help to further strengthen UK–Japan tech and trade collaboration

Alistair Tebbit, Chair of UK-Japan Tech Forum

"I am delighted to be appointed Chair of the Forum and look forward to focussing on strengthening collaboration on technology and trade between the UK and Japan. Alongside my role at RELX, I will work with partners across government and industry to shape a practical, forward‑looking forum agenda, promote meaningful policy and commercial dialogue, and ensure the Forum delivers tangible outcomes that support long‑term bilateral cooperation.”
