Andy is Director of Strategy for CORNERSTONE, the photonics foundry at the University of Southampton. He serves on the UK Government’s Semiconductor Advisory Panel, he chairs the Semiconductor Expert Working Group for UKTIN, and he’s an advisor to the OECD Semiconductor Exchange Network and Silicon Catalyst UK. He has given evidence to five Parliamentary committees, including the National Security and Investment Act, the Telecom Security Act and the select committee on semiconductors.
Andy was the Founder of the Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult, securing a £54m investment from UK Government to build a high-performance organisation of over 100 professionals. He represented the Catapult during discussions with the Prime Minister and delegations to Hong Kong, India, Taiwan and the US White House.
Andy holds an Executive MBA from Glasgow University, a research doctorate from Strathclyde University, he’s a Fellow of the IET and Freeman of the City of London (FCL).
Kirsty Lloyd-Jukes is the CEO and co-founder of Stateful Robotics, an Oxford-based embodied AI company pioneering long-horizon reasoning for autonomous systems. Kirsty is a successful repeat founder who exited her previous company to the world-leading self-driving car company, Waymo.
Her prior career spans entrepreneurship across the Deep Tech and consumer sectors, with expertise in business development, scaling, operations, and fundraising. Outside of work, she mentors for technology-focused accelerators, including Deeptech Labs, the Creative Destruction Lab, and Tech Bros.
Professor Paul Newman CBE FREng FIEEE FIET is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Oxa, a global leader in autonomous vehicle (AV) technology, and holds the BP Chair of Information Engineering at the University of Oxford. A pioneer in mobile robotics with over 30,000 academic citations, Paul has spent his career inventing the fundamental techniques that allow machines to know where they are, what surrounds them, and what they should do next - with applications spanning from the Mars Rover to sub-sea and land vehicles.
After earning his M.Eng from Oxford (Balliol College) in 1995, Paul completed a PhD in autonomous navigation at the Australian Centre for Field Robotics, followed by work in the commercial sub-sea navigation industry. In 2000, he joined MIT’s Department of Ocean Engineering as a research scientist focusing on navigation software. Returning to Oxford in 2003, he became a Fellow of New College in 2005, Professor of Engineering Science in 2010, and ultimately the BP Professor of Information Engineering and a Fellow of Keble College in 2012.
In 2014, he co-founded Oxa (formerly Oxbotica) to commercialise his lab’s technology, and in 2016, became the Founding Director of the Oxford Robotics Institute. He also co-authored the UK’s Robotics and Autonomous Systems Strategy and served on the Department for Transport’s Scientific Advisory Council. His contributions have earned him Fellowships with the Royal Academy of Engineering, the IEEE, and the IET, alongside the Royal Academy’s prestigious Silver Medal.
Sue leads techUK's Technology and Innovation work at techUK.
This includes work programmes on cloud, data protection, data analytics, AI, digital ethics, Digital Identity and Internet of Things as well as emerging and transformative technologies and innovation policy. She has been recognised as one of the most influential people in UK tech by Computer Weekly's UKtech50 Longlist and in 2021 was inducted into the Computer Weekly Most Influential Women in UK Tech Hall of Fame. A key influencer in driving forward the data agenda in the UK Sue is co-chair of the UK government's National Data Strategy Forum. As well as being recognised in the UK's Big Data 100 and the Global Top 100 Data Visionaries for 2020 Sue has also been shortlisted for the Milton Keynes Women Leaders Awards and was a judge for the Loebner Prize in AI. In addition to being a regular industry speaker on issues including AI ethics, data protection and cyber security, Sue was recently a judge for the UK Tech 50 and is a regular judge of the annual UK Cloud Awards.
Rory joined techUK in June 2023 after three years in the Civil Service on its Fast Stream leadership development programme.
During this time, Rory worked on the Government's response to Covid-19 (NHS Test & Trace), school funding strategy (Department for Education) and international climate and nature policy (Cabinet Office). He also tackled the social care crisis whilst on secondment to techUK's Health and Social Care programme in 2022.
Before this, Rory worked in the House of Commons and House of Lords alongside completing degrees in Political Economy and Global Politics.
Today, Rory leads techUK's Emerging Technology and Innovation activity, working with many of the UK's most innovative tech companies to convene key stakeholders, work through key challenges and opportunities for industry, showcase best practice, and shape Government's thinking around future technologies, sectors and industries.
Focus areas include Robotics, Immersive, Web3, Metaverse, Photonics, Space, Gaming, Creative, Innovation policy, university spin-outs, and Futures & Horizon Scanning.
This year’s theme, “Strategy to Delivery”, focusses on the implemtation of ambitious government strategy across UK transport.
