About the series

Trusted Research is essential to safeguarding the UK’s research reputation and global partnerships. This three-part workshop series explores the cultural dimensions of Trusted Research, building towards the Trusted & Secure Research Conference in February 2026.

The workshops are open to those directly involved in the Trusted Research space, as well as techUK members who are interested in supporting this initiative. For members, it highlights the role that technology solutions and services play in underpinning secure governance and helping institutions achieve cultural maturity in their security practices.

Structure

Each workshop runs for two hours as a guided conversation. Through collaborative discussion and mapping, participants will work together to identify challenges, share good practice, and shape proposals for cultural change.

This session

Workshop 2 will focus on accountability and governance. We will explore where cultural factors create inconsistencies across institutions and how these affect Trusted Research practices.

Questions we will reflect on:

  • Where does accountability for Trusted Research feel unclear or fragmented?
  • How do cultural factors drive inconsistency across institutions?
  • In the case of Trusted Research Environments (TREs), what would a shared model of “good” governance look like?

Next in the series

Trusted Research workshop 3: Making it real – embedding Trusted Research through culture, not just controls

Workshop 3: Making it real – embedding Trusted Research through culture, not just controls, will explore how Trusted Research can be reinforced through lived practice and peer norms.
