GPS feels invisible until it is not. Satellite signal disruption, whether through interference, spoofing, or geopolitical risk, is a growing vulnerability for aviation, logistics, defence, and critical national infrastructure. The UK has a credible answer in quantum navigation, and Mission 4 of the National Quantum Missions sets out how we get it from the lab to the runway by 2030.

This webinar unpacks what that journey looks like and where the commercial opportunities lie along the way.

What this webinar covers

Two expert presentations will explore the potential of quantum navigation systems, covering:

  • What quantum clocks, accelerometers, and gyroscopes can do that conventional systems cannot
  • How to prioritise R&D assets and avoid the classic valley-of-death trap
  • Where early commercial opportunities exist beyond aviation, including robotics, drones, and wider transport systems
  • How to de-risk adoption of quantum sensing and positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) technologies in advanced connectivity systems

An open Q&A will follow, giving attendees the chance to put their questions directly to the experts.

Why it matters now

The UK government's PNT Policy Framework has already signalled the direction of travel, and Mission 4 is the delivery mechanism. With the target of chip-scale quantum navigation within reach, the window for shaping R&D priorities, building supply chains, and securing early-mover advantage is open now, not in ten years.

Key mission outcomes include:

  • Deploying quantum navigation systems on aircraft, independent of satellite signals, by 2030
  • Reducing the size, weight, and power of current systems to enable broader integration
  • Demonstrating capabilities in real-world settings to de-risk adoption for business
  • Exploiting the UK's lead in frontier navigation technology across sectors including robotics and autonomous systems
  • Strengthening national resilience against GNSS-denial

Who should attend

This session is for technology companies, investors, policymakers, and researchers working across telecoms, digital infrastructure, aerospace, transport, defence, and autonomous systems. Whether you are deep in the technology or exploring where quantum fits your sector, this webinar is designed to help you make sense of the landscape and spot where to act.

This session sits within techUK's Secure and Resilient Connectivity series, part of our Advanced Connectivity Technologies programme, and Quantum Readiness Series which helps industry prepare for commercially viable quantum technologies.
