About the session

Building on insights from Workshop 1, this session will move from shared discussion toward structured validation and evidence gathering. Workshop 1 explored how trusted research is currently understood across institutions, resulting in a synthesis model capturing core operational domains, trusted research practice requirements, and the wider tensions shaping implementation across the sector.

Workshop 2 will focus on testing and refining these emerging assumptions and translating them into practical next steps. A key objective will be the co-design of a sector-facing survey to better understand how trusted research is interpreted, operationalised, and experienced across different institutional contexts. This survey will aim to capture areas of alignment, variation, and uncertainty identified during the first workshop, helping to build a clearer shared evidence base.

Areas of focus include:

  • Testing assumptions emerging from Workshop 1’s synthesis model
  • Identifying priority areas where trusted research requires clearer language or shared approaches
  • Designing survey themes and question areas to capture sector practice and variation
  • Exploring how “grey areas” and ambiguous scenarios might be better understood through collective insight rather than prescriptive frameworks
  • Identifying where future practical tools or guidance may be most needed based on evidence
