Join us for an exclusive event focused on the strategic role of satellite-enabled private networks—with a particular emphasis on 5G and IoT solutions—in accelerating the digital transformation of the UK’s Critical National Infrastructure (CNI).

Overview

This roundtable will explore how terrestrial and non-terrestrial private networks can address the evolving operational and digital transformation needs of key UK infrastructure sectors. The discussion will focus on identifying high-impact use cases and mapping sector-specific connectivity requirements to guide future deployment and investment.

Roundtable details

  • Location: techUK office, Room 1
  • Date: Tuesday, 30 September
  • Attendees: 20
  • Time: 14:00-16:30

This event will explore how next-generation connectivity can address major challenges including:

  • Replacing legacy communications systems

  • Enhancing resilience in remote and high-risk environments

  • Improving access to real-time operational data

We’ll showcase the economic opportunities these technologies bring, their contribution to national priorities like Clean Power 2030, and their role in modernising infrastructure across energy, transport, and other key sectors.

Key highlights include:

  • Validation of sector-specific use cases, such as PSTN migration in water sector and energy transition support.

  • Discussion of barriers to testbeds, data interoperability, and cross-department collaboration.

  • Insights on how digitalisation can drive resilience and unlock future innovation through satellite and terrestrial network integration.

Whether you're working in CNI, telecoms, policy, or digital infrastructure, this is your opportunity to engage with leaders, shape the future of UK connectivity, and explore partnerships that deliver real-world impact.

Background

The proposal of this series is to highlight the strategic importance of terrestrial and satellite-based private networks in modernising UK infrastructure. Many sectors are facing legacy system obsolescence and require fit-for-purpose communication solutions.

Satellite connectivity offers resilience, flexibility, and reach, especially in areas where terrestrial infrastructure is limited or economically unfeasible. The integration of satellite private networks with terrestrial can unlock predictive maintenance, automation, and real-time control capabilities to provide assurance to critical services.
