techUK is delighted to partner with the Compound Semiconductors Applications Catapult to deliver five roundtable consultations on energy efficiency and innovation in the UK’s telecoms networks.
Addressing both the long-term ambition of a Net Zero economy, and shorter-term challenge of unprecedented energy costs, techUK and CSA Catapult will bring together companies from across the entire telecoms value chain – operators, vendors, service providers and manufacturers – to share valuable knowledge on improving energy efficiency, the materials and techniques set to make an impact, and the technologies and software offering a way forward.
The first roundtable event will kick-off the series with scene-setting and context for why the need for improving the energy efficiency of networks is increasing, as well as scoping out the current landscape.
The kick-off meeting will identify the breadth of technologies applicable to network energy efficiency. These technologies will be explored in more detail during a series of ‘deep dives’ in roundtables 2, 3 and 4, discussing UK capabilities, market potential and priorities for future investment.

Sophie Greaves is Head of Programme for Communications Infrastructure and Services at techUK, and oversees the UK Spectrum Policy Forum.
Sophie was promoted to Head having been Programme Manager for Communications Infrastructure and Services, leading techUK's telecoms activities, engagement and policy development. Previously, Sophie was Programme Assistant across a variety of areas including the Broadband Stakeholder Group, Central Government, Financial Services and Communications Infrastructure programmes.
Prior to joining techUK, Sophie completed a masters in Film Studies at University College London; her dissertation examined US telecoms policy relating to net neutrality and content distribution.

Tales Gaspar
Tales Gaspar
Tales has a background in law and economics, with previous experience in the regulation of new technologies and infrastructure.
In the UK and Europe, he offered consultancy on intellectual property rights of cellular and IoT technologies and on the regulatory procedures at the ITU as a Global Fellow at the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI).
Tales has an LL.M in Law and Business by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) and an MSc in Regulation at the London School of Economics, with a specialization in Government and Law.

Archie Breare joined techUK in September 2022 as the Telecoms Programme intern, and moved into the Policy and Public Affairs team as the Team Assistant in February 2023 and as Public Affairs Manager in September 2023
Before starting at techUK, Archie was a student at the University of Cambridge, completing an undergraduate degree in History and a master's degree in Modern British History.
In his spare time, he likes to read, discuss current affairs, and to try and persuade himself to cycle more.
