techUK's analysis of Ofcom’s Connected Nations 2025 with continued momentum in digital infrastructure rollout

In November 2025, Ofcom released its annual report containing updated data on the coverage and usage of fixed broadband and mobile networks within the UK. In sharing the report, Ofcom has shown an increasingly data-hungry nation, with an increase in demand by nearly a fifth (18%) for mobile data usage compared to last year. In meeting this demand, and wider needs for connectivity, Ofcom reports significant progress across key infrastructure metrics, with gigabit-capable broadband now reaching 87% of UK homes and 5G coverage expanding to 97% of premises, including the first comprehensive data showing 'full 5G' standalone networks now reaching 83% of the UK.

As ever, in support of this document, Ofcom has separately published reports for each of the nations of the UK, alongside its regular interactive report. You can find access to these here and here respectively.

The findings you will see below from Ofcom demonstrate that the UK's digital infrastructure sector continues to deliver on its commitments, exceeding government targets and maintaining strong investment momentum in the face of a less positive economic climate. As demand for data continues to surge and critical sectors depend ever more on high-quality connectivity, these benchmarks on progress become more vital each year.

For techUK members across the connectivity ecosystem, the Connected Nations 2025 report highlights not only our progress but is a reminder of the need to accelerate investment, remove barriers to deployment and uptake, and ensure that the UK is leading the way on digital infrastructure.
