techUK Briefing with Jonathan Cameron, Director for Digital Health and Care for the Scottish Government

Jonathan joined techUK members to provide an update on the strategy and the delivery of major digital systems underpinning Scotland’s health and care services.

Jonathan highlighted the strong emphasis on care at the moment, particularly as 2023 will see the Scottish government start work on the new national care service announced in June 2022 following the Independent Review into Adult Social Care (IRASC)

The fundamental approach taken is ‘right care, right place, right time’, and how digital technology can be used to support this and make sure they are getting ahead of problems before they occur.

Jonathan outlined the ‘cradle to grave approach’ which looks to enable people to live health lives as independently as possible for as long as possible. Key to this approach is data, and ensuring that citizens have access and control. This is a key priority of the ‘digital front door’ programme, which emphasises the importance of ethics in data strategy, as well as improving access to data and information for researchers.
