The Telecoms Infrastructure Working Group brings together techUK members from across the digital infrastructure ecosystem to support the deployment of fixed and wireless telecoms networks across the UK.
This group is a key forum for engagement between industry, government, Ofcom, and other stakeholders to shape the future of telecoms policy, support rollout at pace, and tackle infrastructure barriers.
It covers a wide range of issues, from planning and street works policy to investment conditions, and emerging use cases like 5G small cells and connected infrastructure.

- Full-fibre and gigabit-capable broadband rollout
- 4G and 5G mobile deployment
- Local government partnerships and planning barriers
- Infrastructure innovation and resilience
- Supporting the delivery of UK connectivity targets
Meetings and Engagement
The working group meets every two months to:
- Share policy updates and regulatory developments
- Host speakers from government, Ofcom, and local government
- Explore technical deep dives on emerging challenges
- Coordinate joint policy positions and consultation responses
Telecoms Explainer Briefings
In collaboration with members, techUK has developed a series of explainer briefings to support better understanding of the UK telecoms ecosystem. These are designed for policymakers, local authorities, and stakeholders seeking a clear, accessible introduction to key infrastructure topics.

Telecoms Action Plan
In 2024, techUK and members published a Telecoms Action Plan outlining practical steps to unlock investment, accelerate rollout, and build a more resilient, future-ready infrastructure landscape.
A revised version of the Action Plan is currently in development to reflect the latest policy environment and new market dynamics. The updated version will be published in Autumn 2025.
