Please note the event is open to councils as well.

techUK is delighted to host a roundtable exploring how could digital transformation drive improvements in the children’s services outcomes on 1 November 2022.

Children services continue to be an immediate pressure for councils across the country. Analysis conducted by LGA (Local Government Association) shows that councils budgets for children’s social care has been rising by an average of more than £600 million per year between 2015-2020, however increasing demand and pressure on these services meant a total overspent of £3.2 billion over this time period. techUK is convening a roundtable to bring together key stakeholders from across children services and industry to explore how digital and data can support service redesign and transform outcomes to realise change and make the whole system better.

Some of the challenges and opportunities the roundtable will discuss include:

  • What are the challenges related to data collection, transfer and sharing? Including strategies for linking data from children’s social care with other data sources to enable a place-based approach.
  • How can we provide families with the information they need and to empower individuals to access the right services at the right time?  What are the skills and retraining challenges that come with the adoption of different technologies?
  • How can services better harness innovation to transform outcomes?
  • Do local authorities have the right support and funding to improve delivery of children’s services through technology?
  • What insights can be obtained from seeing children’s services through the lens of local communities?
  • What barriers may prevent councils from maximising the value of their data? How might these be overcome? For example, lack of leadership, legal compliance issues, staff skills gaps and ethical considerations.

The findings from this discussion will be collated and used to inform recommendations to government as well as tangible actions to improve collaboration across services and industry.
