Huw Evans is a partner and Head of Insurance at KPMG UK. In addition to leading the Insurance practice, he works on market analysis and coverage, regulatory & political impacts and topics relating to the future of Insurance.
Huw joined KPMG from the Association of British Insurers (ABI) which he led for 7 years as its Director General. He brings extensive knowledge and understanding of the insurance and long-term savings market and its regulation. During his time at the ABI, Huw led the insurance sector’s response to Brexit and Covid-19 as well as key issues such as Solvency II reform, implementation of the Freedom & Choice pension changes and GI Pricing reform.
Huw sat on the Executive Committee of Insurance Europe from 2015-21 and also served as a non-executive director of
The CityUK. He helped set up Flood Re in the UK and served as the SID of its board from 2016-21. He currently sits on the City of London’s Competitiveness Advisory Board.
Previously Huw worked in Group Strategy at RBS and as a special advisor in 10 Downing Street and the Home Office in Sir Tony Blair’s government. He began his career as a journalist having studied Modern History at university.
David started his career at Aviva before starting Insureyourmotor.com in 2000 with a staff of four above a shop in a West London. Over the next thirteen years he grew the business to a staff of 130 and a GWP of circa £50M. Along the way, the business moved to Wales with the help of some grant assistance from the Welsh Assembly government. The business was sold to private equity in 2012.
David co-founded Cwmbran based Quote Exchange (QE) in 2005 in response to the changing consumer tastes for price comparison within the personal lines sector. The company grew rapidly and secured contracts with brands including Lloyds Bank, ComparetheMarket and Moneysupermarket. QE also moved into international markets and launched the first price comparison site in Brazil. This business was sold to a listed company in 2011.
Whilst waiting out his legal and contractual obligations David spent four years in public service as an elected County Councillor on Herefordshire Council. He was made Cabinet Member for Economy and Corporate services and until recently attended the board of the LEP and NMITE – the new university as well as being a Director of the local enterprise Zone.
Four years was enough to convince David that his interests lay more in business and in 2016 he set up pH Innovate group. David is now the CEO of Pontypool based Quote Detective who sell wheels based insurance to the under served market.
The pH group is entirely owned by its management team, it has no debts or borrowings and employs over one hundred staff.
