This event is for organisations which develop AI, either for their own use or as a supplier. It will be run by Hub leads from the Alan Turing Institute , who are particularly interested in hearing from members developing AI used in the following sectors: Health and Social Care; Financial Services; Cybersecurity; Energy; Telecomms; Transport (including CAVs); Logistics and Manufacturing - however, members developing AI for other sectors are also welcome to sign up.

The roundtable has very limited capacity, and only one attendee per company is therefore permitted to join.

Technical standards are becoming increasingly important for the development, adoption, and governance of AI technologies, and recent years have seen a steep growth in AI-related initiatives across a wide range of Standards Development Organisations such as ISO, IEC, ETSI or IEEE. This has resulted in an AI standardisation landscape that is increasingly complex, rapidly evolving, and inherently international.

The recently announced AI Standards Hub aims to help stakeholders across industry, government and regulators, civil society, and academia to navigate this landscape and become actively involved in it. The Hub will provide information about relevant standards and standard development initiatives, promote community building around questions of AI standardisation, and support training and professional development in this area.

As part of the Hub’s wider efforts to understand stakeholder needs, the Alan Turing Institute are seeking views from techUK members. This event will be an opportunity to inform the Hub’s strategy by sharing your perspectives. Following an introduction to the Hub’s mission, the event will take the form of a virtual roundtable discussion focusing on input from participants on topics including:

  • The significance of AI-related standards in your organisation’s domain
  • AI standardisation priorities and thematic areas that you would like to see reflected in the Hub’s activities
  • Challenges you face in actively contributing to the development of AI-related standards and using or assessing relevant published standards
  • Ways in which the Hub can help address these challenges.

Given the interactive nature of the event, participation will be limited to a small number of attendees, but other engagement activities will follow in the future. There will also be an opportunity to register your interest in the Hub’s work and share views online. More details on this will be available soon.
