Call for case studies - advancing tech maturity in schools through AI and automation
Artificial Intelligence and automation have the potential to transform operational efficiency within schools and Multi-Academy Trusts (MATs). However, discussions with School Business Leaders (SBLs) have highlighted that, as a sector, education is not yet fully positioned to leverage these technologies. Addressing this gap requires a clearer understanding of how AI can contribute to overcoming existing challenges and improving technology maturity.
As part of our ongoing engagement with the Institute for School Business Leadership (ISBL), techUK is calling for case studies from our members to showcase practical examples of AI adoption in schools. By sharing these case studies, we aim to build a foundation for sector-wide learning and identify scalable models that can inform future technology strategies.
Why We Need Your Case Studies
From our engagement with schools and MATs, we've identified a range of challenges that impact their ability to embrace AI and automation effectively. These include:
- System Fragmentation and Procurement Inefficiencies – The decentralised nature of school procurement makes it difficult to achieve cost savings and efficiency gains.
- Digital Inequality and Access to Technology – AI could risk exacerbating existing disparities unless equitable access strategies are developed.
- Barriers to Strategic Planning – Short-term financial pressures often limit schools' ability to invest in long-term technology solutions.
- Infrastructure and Market Evolution – Schools may require a stronger technology foundation to support AI adoption.
- Accountability and Supplier Relations – Schools need better knowledge-sharing frameworks to make informed procurement decisions and hold suppliers accountable.
- Skills Development – Schools need support in developing both commercial and technical skills to make informed AI and automation choices.
What we are looking For
We invite case studies that demonstrate:
- How AI is currently being used to enhance operational efficiency in schools and trusts.
- Practical solutions that help school business teams streamline procurement, financial management, and resource allocation.
- Approaches to reducing administrative burdens through automation.
- Lessons learned from engaging school leadership in technology adoption.
