About the Launch
In March 2021 techUK developed the concept of Local Digital Capital, a way of describing the building blocks that make up a strong technology ecosystem. High levels of local digital capital allow for the development of strong clusters that deliver growth and better digital services to communities across the UK.
Through seven local digital dialogues across the UK, with over 260 local businesses, local and devolved government officials, tech sector representatives, start-up’s and others the concept of local digital capital was honed. This culminated in a number of recommendations that together would improve local digital ecosystems and the levelling-up of our nations and regions.
One recommendation identified that the need to “create a framework to understand and measure the depth of local digital capital in each region/area”. techUK, working with Henham Strategy, have taken this forward and are ready to launch the Local Digital Capital Index.
The index will be launched in Birmingham by West Midlands Mayor, Andy Street, and techUK’s CEO, Julian David, and launch the first iteration of the index, explaining why it matters, how it can be used and working with the sector developing the index as a tool to help policy making, guide decisions and develop collaboration in strengthening our digital technology landscape, followed by refreshments and drinks for further engagement and networking.

"I am very sure that the digital is right at the heart of how we in the West Midlands are going to bounce back. I think of the industries that are going to be strong, whether it be life sciences, whether it be creative, everything is dependent upon digital. So it is both the structural enabler and of course the applied solution to the problems and opportunities of the future."
