Featuring Dr. Florian Ostmann, Head of AI Governance and Regulatory Innovation, The Alan Turing Institute at AVEVA, Central London. Please join us at this exciting in-person event at AVEVA in Central London on July 6 to hear about the work of the UK’s AI Standards Hub, learn about the increasingly important role of standards in regulatory approaches for AI, and discuss priorities and implications for techUK members in this context.

The AI Standards Hub is a government-backed initiative led by The Alan Turing Institute in partnership with the British Standards Institution (BSI) and the National Physical Laboratory (NPL). As part of the UK’s National AI Strategy, the Hub’s mission is to advance trustworthy AI by helping UK stakeholders to understand, make informed use of, and contribute to the development of AI standards.

The first part of the event will introduce the Hub’s mission, provide an overview of the current AI standardisation landscape, and explore the relevance of different types of standards to UK businesses. During this session, techUK members will also have an opportunity to learn about the Hub’s online platform and how its filterable AI standards, policy, and research databases can help with staying on top of the latest developments and best practices in AI governance.

Following this, the AI Standards Hub team will provide an introduction to the growing importance of standards in the context of regulatory strategies for AI around the world, including the UK Government’s recent AI Regulation White Paper and the EU AI Act. This will include an overview of how existing and emerging AI standards map against the principles and objectives set out in these strategies.

The third part of the event will feature an interactive workshop-style discussion to consider priorities and implications in the area of AI standardisation from the perspective of techUK members. In addition to informing the AI Standards Hub’s work, the outcomes of this discussion will be relevant to other strands of activity of interest to techUK members, such as the ongoing AI Regulation White Paper consultation.
