We are delighted to partner with Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) to host this virtual workshop on 11 December.

A common theme identified by MHCLG’s Homelessness and Advice Team is that Local Authorities face challenges managing temporary accommodation that could be addressed in part by using more sophisticated IT systems.

Whilst MHCLG cannot provide or commission a solution directly, we intend to facilitate direct collaboration between LAs and software providers to enable them to develop their own solutions.

The aim of this workshop is to discuss the current systems LAs use to manage and allocate Temporary Accommodation, to understand what works and what could be improved and to use these to generate some high-level requirements we can present back to suppliers to see if they can work with LAs to meet these needs.

During the workshop we are planning to address the following themes and when booking your ticket you can let us know which of these are of interest to you:

The 5 themes are:

  • One system to rule them all – how might we have a single system that allows us to manage our TA instead of lots of different systems AND if not possible how can we improve integration between different systems?
  • Automation to improve efficiency – how can we increase and introduce more automation using software to reduce the number of manual workarounds, remove duplication and eliminate unnecessary admin intensive data entry?
  • Reporting internally and externally – how can we use our systems to improve the quality of management information to help our service managers deliver quality services and meet our mandatory external reporting requirements with the minimum of effort?
  • Delivery, how do we make this happen – how can we work collaboratively with the ‘sector’ to deliver better systems and address some of the systemic challenges to progress?
  • Flexibility, Scalability and Adaptability – how can we introduce systems that are flexible enough to allow us to tailor them to meet specific local contexts and that we can change when organisational changes require it?

Please note the deadline to sign up for this event is 4 December.
