Following the publication of the Government's response to the Data: a new direction consultation, the UK has the opportunity to implement a data protection regime that could work better for citizens and businesses, all while keeping pace with innovation.

The Data Protection and Digital Information Bill is a vast and complex piece of legislation that will impact every organisation operating in the UK handling personal data, as well consumers living in the UK. As the Bill begins its passage through Parliament, techUK is holding an event to discuss what the Bill means in practice, and how it can be improved to reap the full benefits of reform.

In this panel discussion, techUK will be bringing together senior government officials and data protection and policy experts to discuss the following:

  • Has the Bill delivered on the level of ambition the Government initially set out in the Data: a new direction consultation?
  • Does the Bill strike the right balance between enabling innovation and preserving a high standard of data protection rights, which will be key in maintaining the EU’s positive adequacy decision with the UK?
  • How will the Bill sit within and deliver on the Government’s wider digital agenda, e.g., future AI Governance, Digital ID services, and the ambitions of the National Data Strategy?
