techUK comments following Met Police announcement on use of LFR
Commenting on today’s ICO statement deputy CEO, Antony Walker said:
"Facial recognition technology can deliver real benefits for law enforcement and help to create safer communities. This powerful technology also raises important public interest concerns that must be properly addressed. techUK therefore supports the ICO’s recommendation that the government should develop and implement a statutory code of conduct to govern the consistent use of these technologies by police forces across the UK. To secure long-term public support for the use of live facial recognition technology by law enforcement it is vital that clear safeguards are put in place to govern its use."
"techUK stands ready to help and support the development of a code to ensure that we get this right."
