JES Meeting Summaries | Interoperability in Policing Working Group (IPWG) | January 2023

Within January’s IPWG meeting, members discussed the fundamental questions of data/digital systems’ interoperability within police forces and proposed how the Working Group will advance cross-system development within senior policing’s strategic output

Members discussed the Group’s 2-year objectives in defining the technical, organisational, and policy remits of data/digital systems interoperability within the UK’s different forces.

The meeting’s agenda included;

  • A roundup from the Police Digital Service’s (PDS) current interoperability workstream; Martin Levin, Head of Strategy and Innovation at PDS spoke to Working Group members about the cross-Government-Policing strategic work of interoperability.
     
  • Discussion on PDS’s wider role in advancing interoperability; Members, alongside PDS, discussed upcoming events and strategic interoperability developments from Government, PDS, and Policing.
     
  • Discussion on the Working Group’s objectives; Members split into sub-groups, diffusing and picking apart of the varying ideas regarding each objective’s influence towards changing the day-to-day work of policing.
