Following his thought-provoking 2021 Reith lectures, this event will provide an opportunity to dive deeper into one of the conditions Stuart Russell argues is necessary for a harmonious human-AI future: that AI researchers see as inherent to success that their outputs are provably beneficial to mankind. But in an industry where teams or oversight boards focusing specifically on ethics are becoming more common, is it realistic to expect AI researchers and engineers to assess the ethical implications of their work as well?
Join us for an exclusive opportunity to dive deeper into this question with one of the world's greatest thinkers on AI alongside a panel of industry experts. Participants will have the opportunity to contribute to a discussion where we'll also ask whether it is helpful to talk about 'ethical AI' at all, or if we should rather think of it merely as AI that works as it ought to. We will try to identify which skills AI researchers need to evolve if their role is to be inherently tied to societal benefits and what kind of training and organisational incentives would encourage such a shift.
The discussion will be followed by an opportunity to network in the techUK offices.
