How can Data and Analytics help Local Authorities improve Financial Inclusion?

The latest event in techUK’s ‘Demystifying Data in Local Public Services’ series focuses on how councils can utilise a data-driven approach to better understand their residents and deliver more proactive services to meet the needs of the most vulnerable, in a secure and ethical way.

On 16 November techUK held ‘How can Data and Analytics help Local Authorities improve Financial Inclusion,’ where speakers shared their insights and experiences on how they’ve successfully utilised a multi-agency approach; overcoming challenges to data sharing, and the role data-driven technologies can play in supporting a sensitive approach to debt collection for councils and improve outcomes for vulnerable residents.

Speakers included:

  • Mark Fowler, Director of Community Solutions, London Borough of Barking and Dagenham
  • Ingrid Koehler, Service Innovation Lead, LGiU
  • Wajid Shafiq, CEO, Xantura

London Borough of Barking & Dagenham shared their innovative and pro-active approach in utilising data to improve financial inclusion. By investing in the council’s data science and analytics capabilities they have been able to take a more preventative service model approach, shifting to intervention and reduced dependency on the council. All done in an ethical and secure way.

You can find out more about the Barking & Dagenham’s approach and hear the insights from our other speakers by watching the recoding of the full session below.
