Adarma joins initiative to boost gender diversity in cyber security

Cyber threat management specialist Adarma is the first Industry Partner to join techUK and the Cabinet Office’s Government Security Group in supporting the 'Empowering Women to Lead Cyber Security' initiative, designed with the goal of developing a community of emerging female leaders in cyber security and information governance roles across the UK and addressing the long-standing lack of women working within the sector.

The expansion of the 'Empowering…' initiative to London and Southern England follows its initial success in Scotland last year and is the first step towards it being offered across the UK, with new programmes serving Northern England, Northern Ireland and Wales schedule to run in the Autumn. techUK, the UK’s trade association for the technology sector, has given its support for the initiative’s expansion, reinforcing our long-standing advocacy for improved diversity and inclusion in the sector. The London & Southern England cohort will run from April to June, including a combination of in-person group sessions, dedicated one-to-one leadership coaching, and group work themed around specific societal challenges which cyber security can help to address.

The initial three-month leadership program brings together 20 to 24, early-to-mid career cyber security and information management professionals, selected from an open application process which is open until 11 March and has already attracted applicants from across sectors as diverse as financial services, defence, telecommunications, government and health. All places on the programme are free of charge to participants, with the funding provided by a combination of government and industry partners. The final make-up of the cohort is agreed on by the programme’s panel of experts including Daniel Patefield, Head of Cyber Security at techUK, the Cabinet Office’s Deputy Director for the Government Security Profession, Joanna Billan, and senior industry representatives.

Commenting on why Adarma had decided to support the initiative, their Chief Marketing Officer Joanne Gilhooley said:

"We are proud to support the ‘Empowering Women to Lead Cyber Security’ programme in London this year. Following on from our sponsorship of the Scottish programme in 2021 and having seen first-hand the challenges women can face in balancing career progression, we're delighted to partner again with the Empowering You team. We look forward to seeing what this cohort of wonderful cyber ladies will achieve".

Applications for the London and Southern England programme are now open - closing on 11 March.
