Sian Wilson is a distinguished leader in edtech and education, with a career spanning 25 years focused on vocational, technical, and higher education. Sian began working with large corporate businesses and national skills agencies, developing and managing extensive apprenticeship programs in the UK across financial services, tech, and retail sectors. Sian played a pivotal role in bridging government and business, leading to a position at Tech Partnership during the introduction of the Levy, collaborating with government and employers on apprenticeship system reforms and the inception of degree apprenticeships.

As a senior executive director at NCFE, Sian oversaw the introduction of T Levels, End Point Assessment, and Vocational Awards, working closely with colleges, schools, higher education institutions, and businesses, with a particular emphasis on digital education and skills. Sian also served on the regional council for CBI North East and co-chaired the Women in Skills Group, advocating for digital roles and social mobility. Sian's experience includes roles at global ed-tech companies focusing on adult education, tech skills, and digital transformation. Objectives

The Education and EdTech programme is designed to support the use of technology in education, helping institutions, policymakers, and businesses navigate digital transformation. The newly formed Council will provide expert guidance, steer programme priorities, and ensure the sector’s needs are well-represented within techUK’s work.

Through collaboration with stakeholders across schools, higher education, and the wider EdTech ecosystem, the Council will:

  • Shape the programme’s strategic direction, ensuring alignment with sector needs and policy developments.  
  • Represent the interests of techUK’s Education and EdTech membership, from established industry players to SMEs and startups. 
  • Facilitate engagement with key stakeholders, including policymakers, regulators, and education leaders.

Governance

The Council consists of 21 elected members, with 7 seats reserved for SMEs. The Chair and Vice-Chair are elected internally by Council members.

Meeting Frequency

His work focuses on strengthening the UK’s education technology ecosystem, enhancing core technology foundations, and advancing the adoption of emerging technologies to improve educational outcomes.

Austin also chairs the EdTech Advisory Panel for AI in Education, contributing to national discussions on the future of EdTech, AI, and the UK's Education system.
