Today, the Chancellor announced several major regulatory announcements including, HM Treasury’s (HMT) Regulation Action Plan Progress Update and Next Steps and DSIT’s AI Growth Lab.

On 16 June, the ICO published their first draft guidance for organisations across the consumer Internet of Things (IoT) value chain.

The ICO has published their new AI and biometrics strategy, ‘Preventing Harm, Promoting Trust’. Addressing the growing presence of AI and biometric technologies, the strategy emphasises that their successful deployment is contingent on public trust. This trust can be built through transparency, fairness, and appropriate governance and technical protections.

As was widely anticipated, the 2025 Spending Review contained several headline announcements focused on tech, including a £2bn allocation for AI from 2026-27 to 2029-30 and up to £750m for “the UK’s most powerful supercomputer”.
