techUK and the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy are delighted to host this online roundtable exploring what skills the UK tech sector will need for quantum commercialisation, as part of UK Government stakeholder engagement for the upcoming Quantum Strategy
Quantum technologies will create new global market opportunities amounting to $450 billion- $850 billion in the next 15 to 30 years. With a thriving quantum ecosystem in the UK, we are in a favourable position develop a competitive commercial advantage, unlocking innovation across high value industries and sectors, and ensuring that the UK tech sector is at the forefront of quantum application, talent and investment.
However, commercialisation will require a coordinated approach towards quantum skills and the UK needs to develop a quantum workforce with the right skills and talent to enable the deployment of quantum products and services. This includes a quantum enabled workforce within the wider UK tech sector who are empowered to use and utilize quantum technologies and their applications. This sector will need a broad skills base from electrical engineers, materials scientists, network specialists, computer programmers who can be upskilled to exploit the quantum opportunity.
To develop an impactful Quantum Strategy, the UK government needs your input and expertise on where interventions on skills will have the most value, supporting the sector to maintain its world-leading status as commercialization takes hold.
With this in mind, this session will address the priority areas for intervention by covering topics such as:
- How can we support the existing quantum workforce by upskilling the UK tech sector? How can STEM programmes develop a strong foundation for entering the quantum workforce?
- What existing best practice is happening across the UK tech sector to develop and nurture quantum skills?
- How can we ensure the UK is a favourable place to support and retain international talent in quantum, whilst becoming a world leader in quantum skills?
A paper to guide the discussion will be shared with attendees in advance.
Places are extremley limited. Please register in advance to avoid disappointment.
