Introduction
The ESA Navigation Innovation and Support Programme (NAVISP) is designed to facilitate innovation and development of new propositions in the area of satellite navigation and PNT. The programme is run by ESA and since its inception in 2017 the UK has been the largest contributor to NAVISP. There have been two phases of the programme and phase 3 is now underway.
Workshop Purpose
In the workshop Dean Thomas, UKSA will present on the goals and status of NAVISP.
NAVISP has three Elements. Element 1 focuses on innovation and low technology readiness concepts in PNT. ESA draw up a workplan for each year in consultation with Member States, the EC, and the EUSPA. The workplan consists of a series of projects and calls for each project are released throughout the year. ESA welcome project suggestions from industry within member states. The UKSA would like to compile a list of candidate projects to put forward to ESA for consideration for the Workplan for 2024 and future Workplans in Phase 3.
The ideas must be highly innovative, but it is a UKSA objective to ensure that if the initial Element 1 project demonstrates feasibility the projects are in line with the ambitions of at least one UK company and could then go on to further development in the UK. This further development could be with the aid of NAVISP Element 2 funding (80% funding for SMEs and 50% for large enterprises).
Participants in the workshop are asked to come with innovative ideas which they believe if proven feasible could be commercially attractive.
Spaces will be limited so we would ask that only one representative from each organisation attends and is able to represent the interests of their organisation.

15:30 Reconvene and present ideas to Workshop
16:00 Collectively rank ideas
16:25 Sum up and next steps Dean Thomas, UKSA
Subsequent to the workshop UKSA will select from the ranked list a number of ideas to put forward to ESA. The originator of each idea will then be asked to submit to UKSA a more complete description to be forwarded to ESA. Note that if organisations have ideas suitable for Element 1 (highly innovative/low TRL) that they do not want to share in an open forum such as this, they can submit them after the workshop to UKSA via the NAVISP email address: [email protected] . Ideas submitted by this route will be considered alongside those generated in the workshop and may then be selected for submission to ESA.
