This invite-only workshop cohosted by techUK and the Ada Lovelace Institute brings together Responsible AI leads, assurance firms, civil society, and professional bodies to discuss what it might look like to professionalise the responsible AI (RAI) field and establish clear career pathways for practitioners across the ecosystem.
This session will begin with a series of lightning talks to set the scene on the current responsible AI landscape in the UK and showcase the breadth of research to date. These presentations will feature insights from research that centres both responsible AI leads who have successfully embedded responsible AI practices within their organisation, as well as third party auditors who provide testing that supports public trust and adoption of AI.
Following this, participants will work together across three breakout sessions to map core competencies and skills frameworks, explore institutional integration models, and chart professional development pathways. Through collaborative exercises, attendees will exchange practical strategies for positioning RAI roles effectively within organisational structures, identifying essential technical and ethical competencies, and creating potential routes for progression.
Following the session, we aim to produce a brief that contributes to developing the AI assurance ecosystem (recommendation 29 of the AI Opportunities Action Plan). The brief will consider routes to building the AI governance and responsible AI talent pipeline, establishing responsible AI practitioners as a recognised professional discipline.
Together we will work towards creating actionable insights for organisations developing RAI teams and looking to work with third party auditors, while fostering peer-to-peer learning networks that are essential for advancing our field's maturity and impact.
