Event Roundup: Fire and Rescue Command Control Room Modernisation Market Engagement Event Roundup

To maintain the momentum from the AI Roundtable and to aid National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) understanding of development opportunities for CAD/ICCs solutions for the fire and rescue sector, speakers Gillian Fyfe, Strategic Digital, Technology & Cyber Lead, NFCC, Andy Hopkinson, Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue Service and Chair of the NFCC DDat Committee, and Steve Taylor, NFCC Strategic Data Lead, were joined by techUK industry members in an interactive roundtable.

In this collaborative conversation, the NFCC expressed their hopes to mature their procurement and develop positive relationships to guide the number of fire and rescue services that are seeking to find new solutions within the next two years in helping them with standardising their systems and data specifications. As such, it is their mission to be the professional, unifying voice of the sector, and intend to follow up their standards with guidance and materials to help forces achieve them.

The main points included:

  • Collaboration is being encouraged between services- particularly in terms of resilience, sharing their development and being able to work off each other's knowledge to improve efficiency.

  • Pushing digital and data literacy is key to ensure the technology is appropriately  adopted to drive success.

  • NFCC now requires an improved ‘data bucket’ as they move into the second priority of their National Fire Data Collection.

  • Partnerships need to be promoted in a way that doesn’t place the onus of risk on the supplier to increase procurement bidding in the changing risk landscape.

What comes next:

As a result of techUK’s MoU with the NFCC, members will have the opportunity participate in the continued engagement and collaboration with NFCC and other organisations that operate in the fire and rescue services sector via a newly established forum, the details of which will be released in the coming weeks.

Through this forum, we hope to develop a greater collective understanding of the needs of DDaT, through encouraging detail conversations on the industry’s challenges and opportunities for development.

If you would like to hear more about techUK’s work with NFCC, including how to be part of the forum, please reach out to the team using the contact details below.
