Please note that the below is a summary of the event, and readers are encouraged to watch the webinar to understand the full details of the discussion.
Sue, Rajh and Simon opened the session by discussing where most organisations are now in their cloud journey, accelerating adoption of cloud in 2022, and what they see as a growing understanding of the need to move beyond migration and optimise cloud. Rajh highlighted Spot by NetApp’s new DevOps research.
The conversation moved to cloud “bill shock” and how businesses can manage the transition from a CapEx to OpEx mindset in terms of technical solutions, governance, and organisational culture. The consensus was that optimising needs to be an ongoing process and a KPI - not a one-time exercise.
The cloud skills gap was another key challenge explored, with huge demand for DevOps and FinOps engineers accelerated by the transition to an economy in which every company is now a technology company. Spot by NetApp’s research demonstrates the challenges involved in recruiting and retaining that talent and the panel discussed how automation can help boost job satisfaction and drive innovation.
Responding to questions from the audience, the panel discussed how SMEs experience this cloud optimisation journey and the added pressure to innovate in these organisations.
