Call for contributions: techUK’s future of local government campaign week

This campaign will run from 9 December to 11 December

techUK are delighted to announce our future of local government campaign week beginning on the 9 December following our future gazing event on the 3 December.

Local government is undergoing significant transformation, with Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) and devolution taking place across the country over the coming years. This presents both major opportunities and challenges for the sector. This campaign will explore how technology and digital tools are responding to these events, reshaping public service delivery, and enabling more efficient, and inclusive local governance.

techUK wants to highlight the voices of digital leaders who are enabling transformation across local government during this period, delivering better outcomes for communities and citizens.

Please find the daily themes for the campaign here:

Tuesday: Local government reorganisation

Many councils are undergoing structural reform over the next few years as part of local government reorganisation (LGR). This presents both an opportunity for councils and tech companies alike, as they work to integrate systems and contracts, reorganise teams and structures, and strengthen capabilities such as cyber resilience and digital infrastructure. LGR has the potential to not only reshape councils, but also service delivery and the way digital infrastructure, data, and innovation are embedded across local systems to improve outcomes for citizens. We want to hear from members how digital tools and innovation can support councils, understanding the role that tech companies play in this process to drive better outcomes.

Wednesday: AI and emerging tech in public service delivery

AI and other emerging technologies are transforming the delivery of public services for councils across the country. These tools offer the opportunity to deliver more efficient and personalised frontline service delivery. While there is opportunity for improvement, Local Government will also have to consider what new skills will be required to enable this technological transformation. We want to hear from members how emerging tech and AI have driven innovation and efficiencies across councils, and the potential they hold during this transformative time for the sector.

Thursday: Citizen experience in the council of the future

As councils transform and evolve, the way in which they engage with citizens and serve communities is also undergoing significant change. Questions remain on how technology can be used to create improved citizen experiences that meet the expectations of modern communities. Digital tools offer the opportunity to harness data and AI to better understand local needs and tailor services for more efficient outcomes. We want to hear from members who have insights into how councils can use technology and digital tools to design a more inclusive, responsive, and effective citizen experience for the communities they serve.
