In early 2023, the Home Office launched a consultation on the review of the CMA to which techUK responded on behalf of its members. Further to that consultation process, techUK and some member organisations have been part of the Home Office-led System Access Group (SAG) which was convened in order to start to look into the (more contentious) ‘areas for further consideration’ referenced in the consultation document. The SAG discussions were prompted by questions that remained unanswered – for example, around what constitutes legitimate cyber security activity – and there is still divergence amongst industry on these issues.
This virtual workshop (which we expect to be the first of a short series) will give members the opportunity to debate and agree areas where there is industry consensus on CMA reform for techUK to present to the Home Office.
The discussion will be run by members, with a view to producing a document that sets out the challenges and areas of agreement in detail.
Who should attend this workshop?
We are keen to gather views and experience from both policy and technical leads during the session.
Useful information
It may be useful to re-familiarise yourself with techUK’s response (see below) to the review of the CMA 1990 consultation; as well as government’s response which was recently published.
Call for evidence
If you have any examples/evidence that will help develop a better understanding of the perceived risks of the current legislative environment, please do bring them along to the workshop, or get in touch with the techUK Cyber Programme team.
