In November 2021, techUK was delighted to have been approached to host a roundtable with suppliers to seek their input and involvement in shaping and informing the Policing Science and Technology Strategy. You can read a short summary, shaping questions and watch the recording back in full here.

Following this session and, with the Policing Science and Technology Strategy due to be published any day now, techUK is hosting a further session with the Home Office and Chief Scientific Advisor Paul Taylor to run through the strategy, discuss what it means for suppliers, how it will work and priorities in the short, medium and long term. The strategy will set a clear direction showing how police can benefit from the best science and technology, shape future technology and build an effective, efficient 21st century Police Service.

When Professor Paul Taylor was appointed the first Police Chief Scientific Advisor in May 2021, his ambition was to build the foundations necessary to make ours the most effective, science and technology-led Police Service in the world.

The first Police Science, Technology, Analysis and Research (STAR) Strategy sets out clearly how Policing will achieve that ambition, and the ways in which the entire STAR community, including our industry partners, can become part of that journey.

"We are grateful to Tech UK and its members for helping inform the strategy. We listened to the challenges and potential untapped opportunities you raised, and we have considered how to address them: e.g. from the need to shape a coherent system of engagement with industry partners, to the ability to signal our demand and requirements.

We hope that you find the strategy informative and useful, and ultimately that it helps Policing and Industry work together more collaboratively, using innovation in science and technology to tackle the challenges currently facing the Police Service and beyond".

Shaping questions:

There will be an opportunity to ask questions. We would welcome the opportunity to hear your views, and to answer any particular questions you might have. To help shape the conversation, we would like to hear your views on the following:

Q.1: With the “Engage” pillar of the strategy in mind (which we will describe during the session), what are the most effective ways of engaging with you on opportunities?

Q.2: If you have one, what is your ‘can you do X please?’ We’re keen to discuss these and reach an action for us to take away and see what is possible (with no commitment)

Q.3: We welcome the opportunity to have regular techUK-led conversations in which we bring policing’s leaders together with partners to discuss a particular domain or challenge. What area would you like to see covered?
